It is not an international school in the Chinese legal sense — it does not hold the separate government approval that designates a school as a joint Chinese-foreign education institution, and it is currently applying for a separate approval to enrol foreign students.
The school describes itself as an overseas branch of Myddelton College in Denbigh, North Wales. The UK school’s inspectorate (Estyn, 2025) confirmed that Myddelton College (Wales) “links to several schools in China” without naming Jinhua specifically. The relationship is a curriculum and brand partnership, not a registered joint-operation under Chinese foreign-education law. MCJ’s written communications call it an “authorised school in China” (授权学校).
Campus
MCJ shares a campus site with Jinhua Rongguang School (金华市荣光学校), a separate non-profit primary and junior secondary school on a different licence. The high school division is MCJ; primary and junior secondary are Rongguang School. The two share a campus WeChat presence and the primary school’s restaurant serves weekend meals for high school boarders who stay on campus.
The school’s website describes the campus as purpose-built by a leading Chinese architecture firm and opened in September 2022. It is a dedicated teaching and residential environment on Rongguang Road.

On its website MCJ describes itself as “a co-educational day school for students aged 14 to 18” — the word day school reflects its Chinese licence status, not the boarding arrangement. In practice the majority of students live on campus five days a week.

Foreign students who enrol at MCJ and complete the course will receive IGCSE and A-Level certificates from the British exam boards — not a Chinese high school diploma. The school told Alifa that graduates receive a certificate authorised by Myddelton College (Wales) and issued by MCJ itself. A Cambridge electronic Statement of Results (IGCSE, June 2026 series) supplied by the school shows centre CX086 and the name Jinhua Jiangnan High School — matching the public registry. The school is awaiting written confirmation from Myddelton College (Wales) of the certificate authorisation arrangement.
Route into university
A-Level results are accepted by universities in the UK, Australia, Canada, Hong Kong and elsewhere internationally. They are not the normal route into Chinese state universities. However, the school notes that some Chinese universities — including Zhejiang University — accept foreign students through an overseas-student pathway that can accept an HSK score and A-Level results alongside a school certification (CSCA) and health checks.

The school confirmed in writing (October 2026) that foreign students who stay at the weekend get basic care from the school, but the school has not published a guardian policy or rules for students whose parents live abroad. The 2025 and 2026 classes are substantially larger, reflecting the school’s growth. The 2026 class of 57 is more than double 2025 and suggests the school is now operating closer to its planned capacity.

The school’s own directions use West Shuangxi Road station (双溪西路站) on the Jinyidong Line (Metro Line 1), then a taxi of about 15 minutes. Amap puts the drive from that station at approximately 11 minutes (6.3 km).

Jinhua is a prefecture-level city in central Zhejiang Province, approximately 110 km south-west of Hangzhou and 60 km west of Yiwu. It is well connected to the national high-speed rail network. Yiwu International Trade City, one of the world’s largest wholesale markets, is within an hour of the campus — making MCJ a realistic option for families based in Yiwu for trade or business reasons.
