Shanghai Jincai High School International Division (JCID, 上海市进才中学国际部) is a public-school international division in Pudong, Shanghai, approved by the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission in 2000. It teaches the IPC (Grades 1–5), IB Middle Years Programme (Grades 6–10) and IB Diploma Programme (Grades 11–12). Who Can Apply — The Parent-Works-in-Shanghai Rule
JCID is a public-school international division. Shanghai governs which children can enrol. The school website states: "Applicants should be children of foreign and Hong Kong/Macao/Taiwan/overseas-Chinese persons working in Shanghai, as defined by the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission."
The official WeChat brochure (2025-10-11) lists five eligibility groups:
The rule that matters most for foreign families. At least one parent must be working in Shanghai under a qualifying permit. There is no published route for a child whose parents live and work entirely outside China. If your employer sends you to Shanghai, your child can apply. If you want to send your child alone while you stay abroad, JCID has not published a route for that. Ask the school directly — this is not a question Alifa can answer on the school’s behalf.
Age requirement
Students must be 6 years or older and in good health. They must have at least one semester of school education. All applicants take an entrance test (Chinese, English and maths, varying by grade).
Do not confuse with other Jincai schools
Several Pudong public schools carry Jincai (进才) in their name but are entirely separate institutions: 上海市进才实验中学, 进才中学北校, 进才中学根林分校, 进才森兰实验中学, 进才实验小学. None of these is JCID. Only 上海市进才中学国际部 (at No. 26 Eshan Road) is the International Division.

Teaching staff in English classes
The school’s student management page states that each English-section class has both a Chinese homeroom teacher and a foreign homeroom teacher (中方、外方班主任各一名). Both are responsible for daily conduct guidance, academic support and pastoral care. Homeroom teachers contact parents or guardians regularly to report on academic progress and behaviour. This dual-teacher model is confirmed on the school website; class size is capped at 25 students.

About Pudong and Shanghai for foreign families
Shanghai is China’s largest city and has one of its biggest foreign communities, with many international schools, shops and clinics that work in English. The metro covers most districts, and taxis and ride apps are common. Summers are hot and humid. Winters are cool and damp, and heavy rain falls in early summer. Two airports serve the city. Pudong handles most long-haul flights, and Hongqiao handles many domestic and regional flights and links to the high-speed rail network. Rents are among the highest in mainland China.
Eshan Road is in eastern Pudong, a few minutes from the Lancun Road metro interchange. The campus is within reach of both airports and accessible from most of Pudong without a car.
