HSEFZ — School History and Overview
No. 2 High School of East China Normal University (HSEFZ) was founded in 1958. By 1963 it had become a Shanghai key middle school; by 1978 it was named a key school directly under China’s Ministry of Education. The International Division was established in 1999. In 2002 the school moved to its Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park campus in Pudong. In 2007 HSEFZ was approved as an HSK test centre (the only one in Pudong New Area) and as a national Chinese language promotion base (国家汉语国际推广基地). A second campus at ZiZhu, Minhang District, began recruiting students in 2012 — the school now operates as “one school, two campuses.”

Overseas Chinese Class (境外班) — extra route for senior high
A separate senior high track (境外班) is available for “hai gui” families (families returning to Shanghai from abroad). Eligibility: Hong Kong/Macau/Taiwan status, foreign passport, or foreign permanent residence. Students can apply using a zhongkao score or a second mock exam (二模) score. Curriculum includes Chinese-English bilingual courses, AP, social practice, SAT tutoring and Japanese writing.

About Zhangjiang
Zhangjiang is Pudong’s technology and research district, home to major technology companies, research institutes and hospitals. Metro Line 2 connects Zhangjiang directly to central Shanghai (People’s Square in about 35 minutes) and to Hongqiao Railway Station and Pudong Airport. The school’s campus of 150 mu was purpose-built for HSEFZ when it relocated from its original location in 2002.
